Aamir Khan’ Father Tahir Husain Passed Away
Film producer and actor Aamir Khan’s father, Tahir Husain, passed away early Tuesday morning following a massive cardiac arrest. He was in his early 70s.
A family insider said Tahir had stayed back at Aamir’s residence after returning from grandson Imran’s engagement in Karjat and suffered a cardiac arrest. Aamir, who was in Los Angeles for the Sundance Film Festival, is flying back with wife Kiran and will be landing on Wednesday evening after which the funeral will take place. Tahir’s daughter, Farhat, is also flying down from the US for the funeral. Even Imran, who is in New Zealand, is coming back.
Tahir was the younger brother of late producer-director Nasir Husain. As a producer he has to his credit films like ‘Carvan’, ‘Madhosh’, ‘Anamika’, ‘Zakhmee’, ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke’ and ‘Dulha Bikta Hai’.
Tahir also had a small stint as an actor in films like ‘Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai’, ‘Janam Janam Ka Saath’ and ‘Pyaar Ka Mausam’ after which he turned production executive and worked on films like ‘Teesri Manzil’. He turned producer with ‘Carvan’, a super-duper hit.
Asha Parekh, who acted in three of his films — ‘Carvan’, ‘Hamara Khandan’ and ‘Zakhmee’ — describes Tahir as a jovial person. ‘‘He always wanted to live life to the fullest. Not too many know that this very nice human being was related to Abul Kalam Azad. I’ve seen his marriage and his children have grown up in front of me. He was a very nice father. I haven’t really been in touch with him but I pray to God to give his wife Zeenat strength,’’ she said.
Tahir also directed his son Aamir in ‘Tum Mere Ho’. Mahesh Bhatt, who worked with Tahir Husain as a producer in ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke’, said, ‘‘He was a simpleton at heart. You don’t make men like him any more.’’
