Dancing Babes Of Bollywood
The Bollywood Industry is known for its entourage of actors, musicians, singers, writers, directors, dancers and so on. Tinsel-town has a long list of actors, who apart from their acting skills also have an extraordinary asset to their credit. Here, we are talking about the Bollywood stars who apart from being talented actors are equally talented dancers. The igniting performances of the stars (below), in some of the remarkable numbers have left an everlasting memory and praise in our hearts and minds for them. Check out these dancing bollywood babes and rekindle their punching performances.
Sandhya:
Trained in Kathak, Bharatnatyam and Manipuri, Sandhya is undoubtedly an ace dancer of Bollywood. Her performances in V Shantaram’s films like Sandhya and Navrang redefined the dance and choreography in Indian cinema. Her ‘Jaa re hat nathkhat’ number till date remains a unique milestone in the history of Indian cinema.
Helen:
Helen is unarguably the number one ‘Cabaret Queen’ of Bollywood. Though not a trained dancer, Helen carved a niche for her dances in the film industry. It had become a trend to have an exclusive item song for Helen in the film even though her dance had got nothing to do with the plot of the movie. The chart busters ‘Mungda Mungda’, ‘Monica …Oh my darling’, ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ and ‘Aa jaane jaa’ are just unimaginable without Helen.
Vyjayantimala:
Vyjayantimala is one of the most accomplished dancers of the industry. “Watching her dance is like watching a caged bird released for the first time darting about nervously and ecstatic in flight”, this is how the movie critics used to praise her dancing skills. Her dance performances in ‘Man dole mera tan dole’ (Naagin), ‘Chadh gayo paapi bichhua’ (Madhumati), ‘Buddha mil gaya’ (Sangam) and ‘Hothon pe aisi baat’ (Jewel Thief) are a few among her evergreen performances.
Hema Malini:
h
A trained Bharatanatyam dancer Hema Malini possesses a freshness of style and grace in her dance. Hema Malini transforms her dance into a sensual play with her alluring innocence. In fact a few songs of notable films of 70s, like ‘O babul pyaare’ from Jhonny Mera Naam, ‘Jab tak hai jaan” from Sholay, and “Zindagi hai khel” in Seeta Aur Geeta are remembered only for her extraordinary dance performances more than anything else.
Sridevi:
Sridevi is one name that symbolizes sensuality and oomph.A trained Bharatnatyam dancer, Sridevi is well-known for her sensuous dance numbers like ‘Mein teri dushman’ from Nagin, ‘Kaate nahi kat te’ from Mr. India and ‘Mere hathon mein nau nau choodiyaan hain’from Chandani. With her every electric performance, Sridevi only leaves the audience awestruck and wanting for more.
Madhuri Dixit:
Madhuri Dixit’s Bollywood entry can be attributed to her dance. Though not being a professionally trained dancer, it is her graceful performance in Ek Do Teen’from N.Chandra’s Teezab that gave Madhuri Dixit an identity. The ‘Dhak Dhak’ girl as she is fondly called further danced her way into millions of hearts with ‘Bada dukh dina’ (Ram Lakhan), ‘Mera Piya Ghar Aaya’ (Yaarana) ‘Choli ke peechay kya hai’ (Khalnayak), ‘Ankhiya milaye kabhi ankhiya churaye’ (Raja) etc. What sets Madhuri Dixit apart from most actresses is the capability to convey emotions through her performances, which is again very well seen in ‘Dola Re’ and ‘Maar Dala’ numbers from the film Devdas. She is almost an ‘icon of dance’ among her fans.
Karisma Kapoor:
Karisma Kapoor who always intended to be an actress, learnt dancing at the age of eight. She rocked the charts with the controversial number ‘Sexy Sexy Mujhe Log Bolen’ from the film Khuddar in early 90’s. The actress went on to impress her fans with the typical jhatka –matka numbers in films like Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, and Saajan Chale Sasural. But the film that marked her as a intense dancer was Yash Raj’s Dil To Pagal hai where she matched steps with another great dancer Madhuri Dixit.
Urmila Matondkar:
Best known for her sensuous ‘Tanha Tanha…’ number from the film Rangeela, Urmila is considered as an outstanding dancer of the industry. Urmila again showcased her talent in ‘Chamma Chamma’ dance sequence from the film China Gate, Thereon, she was titled the Chamma Chamma girl. Her other hit numbers include, ‘Aaiye Aajaye’ from Lajja, ‘Kambhakt Ishq hai Jo’ from Pyarr Tune Kya Kia and the latest ‘Tandoori Nights’ from Karzzzz.
Aishwarya Rai:
Born and brought up in the south,Aishwarya was naturally trained in various dance forms like Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi etc. Aishwarya showcased her dancing talent to the fullest, right from her initial days, in the film Jeans to Devdas to the wild gyrations of ‘Barso re’ in Guru. One of the most memorable dances, which led her entry into the league of Bollywood’s top dancers, was ‘Kajrare’ from Bunty Aur Babli, where she swooned the entire nation with her graceful curves.
Malaika Arora Khan:
Following the footsteps of Mother-in –law Helen, Mallika Arora Khan, too is not a trained dancer but has mastered the trait to add a sex appeal to her dance. She stole hearts of a million with her power-packed performances in the songs ‘Chaiyan Chaiyan’ from Dil Se, Shubha Mudgal’s ‘Rangeelo maro dholna’, Kaal Dhamaal from film Kaal and ‘Mahi Ve…’ from Kaante. With her latkas and jatkas she adds a ‘desi flavour’ to any of her performances
